When setting up a new storage location or expanding your inventory system, creating bins one at a time is slow. The Bulk Create feature lets you generate dozens or hundreds of bins at once with sequential numbering and automatic label printing.
When to Use Bulk Create
Bulk Create is ideal for:
Initial store setup -- Create your full bin inventory in one step
New storage location -- Spin up bins for a new storage unit or back room section
Seasonal expansion -- Add bins before a busy season when more storage is needed
Restocking containers -- Replace lost or damaged bin labels with new bins
How to Bulk Create Bins

What Gets Created
Using the example above (Prefix: Bin #, Starting Number: 101, Quantity: 50), the system creates:
Bin #101
Bin #102
Bin #103
... through ...
Bin #150
Each bin is assigned to the selected location and starts with no categories. You will assign categories later as you fill each bin.
Tip: Set the label quantity to 2 per bin so you have one label on the bin itself and one spare in case the first gets damaged.
Naming Strategy
Choose a naming convention that makes sense for your store. Here are common approaches:
Strategy | Prefix | Start | Example Names |
Simple numbering |
|
| Bin #1, Bin #2, Bin #3 |
Location-based |
|
| BR-101, BR-102 (Back Room) |
Category-based |
|
| Shoes 1, Shoes 2 |
Storage unit |
|
| SU112-1, SU112-2 |
Tip: If you already have bins numbered 1-100, set the starting number to 101 to avoid name conflicts.
After Creating Bins
Once bins are created:
Labels print automatically -- Attach the printed barcode labels to your physical containers
Bins appear in the table -- All new bins show up in the Backstock home page table with no categories and today's date as the age date
Assign categories -- As you fill each bin, open the Manage Bin modal to set the Main POS Category and any additional tags
Move bins if needed -- If some bins need to go to a different location, you can change the location in the Manage Bin modal
Label Printing
Labels are printed through your store's connected label printer. Each label contains:
The bin name (e.g., "Bin #101")
A unique barcode for scanning
The store identifier
If you chose 0 labels per bin, no print job is sent -- you can always reprint labels later using the printer icon on each bin's row in the table.
Troubleshooting
The bins were created but no labels printed
Check that your label printer is connected and powered on. You can reprint labels individually using the printer icon on each bin's row, or create a new bulk job.
I created bins with the wrong prefix
Bin names can be changed individually by opening the Manage Bin modal (gear icon) and editing the Bin Name field on the Edit Bin tab. For large batches, it may be faster to delete the incorrectly named bins and re-run Bulk Create.
I need to create bins at multiple locations
Run Bulk Create once per location. Each batch can have a different prefix and location. For example:
First batch: Prefix
BR-, Location "Back Room"Second batch: Prefix
SU-, Location "Storage Unit 112"
