This guide walks you through creating and managing Comeback Cash promotional events -- from choosing the event type to configuring rewards, scheduling dates, and monitoring performance through the Kanban board.

Before You Start

To create and manage events, you need:

  • Admin access with the uri_store_settings permission

  • Access to the Comeback Cash admin page at Admin > Comeback Cash Management

Tip: Events can also be created from the Workspace if you have the uri_comeback_cash_manage permission. The workspace event form works the same way.

The Event Creation Wizard

Click Create Event to open the step-by-step event wizard. The wizard walks you through four steps:

Step 1: Choose Event Type

Select whether customers will earn coupons on the Buy Side or Sales Side.

Type

When to Use

Setup Complexity

Buy Side

Reward customers who sell items to your store

Simple -- just set a flat coupon value

Sales Side

Reward customers who purchase from your store

Advanced -- flat rate, percentage, or tiered options

Click the card for your chosen type, then click Next.

Step 2: Event Details

Event Name

Give your event a descriptive name (up to 100 characters). This name appears on coupon receipts, in reports, and in the admin dashboard.

Good examples: "Holiday Comeback Cash 2025", "Summer Sales Event", "Back to School Promo"

Buy Side Configuration

For buy-side events, configure two fields:

Field

Description

Example

Coupon Value

The dollar amount of the coupon

$30.00

Minimum Purchase to Redeem

How much the customer must spend when using the coupon (0 for no minimum)

$60.00

Tip: A common setup is "$30 off a $60 purchase" -- this encourages customers to come back and spend at least double the coupon value.

Sales Side Configuration

Sales-side events offer three earning types:

Flat Rate -- Every qualifying transaction earns the same coupon value.

  • Set the Coupon Value and optional Min Purchase to Redeem

  • Example: Every purchase earns a $10 coupon

Percentage -- Coupon value is calculated as a percentage of the transaction total.

  • Set the Percentage (1-100%) and optional Min Purchase to Redeem

  • Example: 10% back on all purchases

Tiered -- Different coupon values based on how much the customer spends.

  • Click Add Tier to define each spending level

  • Each tier has three fields: minimum spend threshold, coupon value earned, and minimum purchase to redeem that coupon

  • Example tiers:

    • Spend $50+ --> Get $10 off (requires $25+ to redeem)

    • Spend $100+ --> Get $30 off (requires $60+ to redeem)

    • Spend $200+ --> Get $75 off (requires $100+ to redeem)

For sales-side events, you can also set a Minimum Purchase to Earn -- the minimum transaction amount before a coupon is generated at all. Leave at $0 if every transaction should earn a coupon.

Step 3: Schedule and Settings

Earning Period

Set the dates when customers can earn coupons:

Field

Description

First Day to Earn

Coupons start being issued on this date (at store open)

Last Day to Earn

Last day coupons are issued (through store close)

Tip: Dates are inclusive. Setting Aug 1 through Aug 30 means coupons are issued on all transactions from store open on Aug 1 through store close on Aug 30.

Redemption Period

Set the dates when customers can use their coupons:

Field

Description

First Day to Redeem

Earliest date customers can use coupons (typically the day after earning ends)

Last Day to Redeem

All coupons expire at store close on this date

Tip: The wizard auto-suggests the redemption start as the day after earning ends, and defaults to a 30-day redemption window. Adjust as needed for your promotion.

Notification Options

Option

Default

Description

Print coupon at POS

On

Prints a physical coupon when issued

Send SMS with coupon code

On

Texts the coupon code to the customer's phone (if phone number is on file)

Step 4: Review and Confirm

The final step shows a summary of your entire event configuration. Review each section carefully:

  • Event name and type (Buy Side or Sales Side)

  • Coupon value/earning configuration

  • Earning period dates (inclusive)

  • Redemption period dates (inclusive)

  • Coupon expiration date (same as last day to redeem)

  • Notification settings

You have two save options:

Button

What It Does

Save as Draft

Saves the event without activating it. You can edit and activate later.

Save & Activate

Saves and immediately activates the event (or schedules it if the start date is in the future).

Tip: If the earning start date is in the future, the button changes to Save & Schedule and the event will automatically activate on that date.

Managing Events on the Kanban Board

The Events tab in the admin view displays a Kanban-style board with five columns representing the event lifecycle:

Column

Description

Card Shows

Draft

Events still being configured

Name, type badge, warnings for missing dates or rewards

Scheduled

Events set to activate in the future

Name, coupon value, earning/redeem requirements, countdown to start

Active

Currently issuing coupons

Name, coupon value, stats (Issued/Redeemed/Rate), progress bar with days remaining

Redemption

Earning ended, coupons being used

Name, stats, redemption progress bar

Completed

Fully finished events

Name, final stats, end date

Available Actions by Status

Draft events:

  • Edit -- Re-open the event wizard to make changes

  • Activate -- Start the event immediately (disabled if dates or rewards are missing)

  • Delete -- Permanently remove the draft

Scheduled events:

  • Edit -- Modify the event before it starts

  • Cancel -- Remove from the schedule

Active events:

  • Report -- View detailed performance data

  • End Event -- Stop issuing coupons early (coupons already issued remain valid for redemption)

Redemption and Completed events:

  • View Report -- See final performance statistics

Filtering Events

Both the admin and workspace event views include filter options:

  • All Events -- Show everything

  • Buy Side -- Show only buy-side events

  • Sales Side -- Show only sales-side events

  • Active Only -- Show only currently active events (admin card view)

On mobile devices, the Kanban board switches to a tab-based navigation with buttons for each lifecycle phase.

Editing Existing Events

Click Edit on any Draft or Scheduled event to reopen the creation wizard with the event's current settings pre-filled. Make your changes and save.

Warning: Active events cannot be edited. If you need to change an active event's configuration, end it and create a new one.

Troubleshooting

"Another active event already exists"

Only one event per side (buy/sales) can be active at a time. End the current active event first, or the system will auto-end it when you activate the new one.

"Event must have a start date to be scheduled"

Events need all four dates configured (earning start/end, redemption start/end) before they can be scheduled or activated.

Draft event shows warnings

The Kanban card will display warning badges if dates or reward tiers are not yet configured. Complete the setup before activating.
