The Search Customers page gives you a powerful, filterable view of every customer in your store's database. Use it to find specific customers, review contact information, check opt-in status, and export customer lists for marketing or reporting. Whether you need to look up a single customer by name or pull a filtered list of high-value buyers in a particular zip code, this is the tool for the job.

Getting There

Navigate to Admin > Customers > Search Customers from the sidebar menu.

Overview

The Search Customers page is built around two main areas:

  • Filter Bar -- A row of filter controls across the top of the page that let you narrow down which customers appear in the grid.

  • Customer Grid -- A full-featured data grid showing matching customers with sorting, searching, inline editing, and export capabilities.

The grid uses server-side pagination, so even stores with tens of thousands of customers will load quickly. Only the current page of results is fetched at a time.

Filter Bar

The filter bar sits above the grid and provides eight filter controls. Filters are applied together -- only customers matching all active filters will appear in the results.

How to Use Filters

  2. The grid will automatically refresh to show only matching customers.

  3. To clear a filter, return it to its default value (e.g., select "All" for dropdowns, or clear the text from input fields).

Tip: Combine filters to build targeted customer lists. For example, set Contact Info to "Has Phone," Opted In to "SMS Opted In," and City to your local city to see a list of nearby customers you can reach by text message.

Sorting

Click any column header to sort the grid by that column. Click the same header again to reverse the sort order. A small arrow icon in the header indicates the current sort direction.

Searching

Use the Search box in the toolbar at the top of the grid to perform a quick text search across all visible columns. This is useful when you need to find a specific customer by name, phone number, or email address.

  1. Click into the search box in the grid toolbar.

  2. Type your search term (e.g., a last name or phone number).

  3. The grid will filter down to matching rows as you type.

Tip: The search box works in combination with the filter bar. If you have filters active, the search will only look within the already-filtered results.

Column Filtering

For more precise filtering on a specific column:

  1. Click on the column header you want to filter.

  2. Press Alt + Down Arrow to open the column filter menu.

  3. Set your filter condition and value.

  4. Click Filter to apply.

Pagination

The grid loads results in pages to keep performance fast. You can control how many customers appear per page and navigate between pages using the controls at the bottom of the grid.

Available page sizes: 25, 50, 100, 200, 500

  1. Use the page size dropdown at the bottom of the grid to choose how many rows to display per page.

  2. Use the page navigation arrows to move between pages.

  3. The total number of matching customers is displayed alongside the pagination controls.

Tip: If you plan to export data, you do not need to increase the page size first. The export functions will include all filtered results regardless of page size.

Inline Editing

You can edit customer information directly in the grid without navigating to each customer's profile page.

  1. Double-click on any editable cell in the grid.

  2. The cell will become an input field. Make your changes.

  3. You can edit multiple cells across different rows before saving.

  4. Click Save Changes in the toolbar to commit all edits at once.

  5. To discard unsaved edits, click Cancel in the toolbar.

Tip: Inline editing uses batch mode, meaning your changes are not saved to the database until you click Save Changes. If you navigate away from the page without saving, your edits will be lost.

Exporting Data

The grid toolbar includes two export options for downloading customer data:

  • Excel Export -- Downloads the current filtered results as an Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx).

  • PDF Export -- Downloads the current filtered results as a PDF document.

How to Export

  1. Apply any filters you want to narrow down the results.

  2. Click Excel Export or PDF Export in the grid toolbar.

  3. The file will download to your computer automatically.

Tip: Exports respect your active filters. To export your entire customer list, make sure all filters are set to their default values before exporting.

Troubleshooting

Issue

Solution

The grid is empty after applying filters

One or more of your filters may be too restrictive. Reset all filters to their default values and try narrowing down one filter at a time.

Search box is not returning expected results

The search box only matches text visible in the grid columns. Try using the filter bar instead for fields like rating or buy count.

Inline edits disappeared after navigating away

Inline edits are not saved until you click Save Changes. Always save before leaving the page.

Export file is empty or has fewer rows than expected

Exports respect your active filters. Check that your filters are set to show the results you want before exporting.

Grid is loading slowly

Try reducing the page size to 25 or 50. Also ensure you are not combining too many broad filters that return very large result sets.

Cannot edit a cell by double-clicking

Not all columns support inline editing. System-calculated fields like Buys, Last Buy, and ID are read-only.
